SVHC is hiring for Summer 2026!🐴 We are looking to fill the role of Ranch and Program Assistant. It is a full time seasonal position from June through September, and part time October through May. This is a hands on position that requires extensive equine experience, including horse care, behavior, and handing. It is with the heaviest hearts that we announce that today, our beloved Billy Bob passed away. Pushing 35 years old, Billy Bob came to SVHC in the spring of 2024 for what everyone thought would be one final summer of care. What we quickly found out is that Billy Bob not only intended on staying much longer, but he was going to take over SVHC in the process. We started letting Billy Bob roam the ranch during the day, and it quickly became a routine of letting Billy Bob out first thing in the morning. He explored the property all day, finding all of the best grass, greeting horses in their fields, breaking into the hay barn, or standing over the picnic table, waiting for scratches while you ate lunch. Billy Bob stole our hearts with his charming personality and his beautiful friendly face. He knew exactly what time breakfast and dinner was, and he certainly let you know if you were even a minute late! Billy Bob was a lifelong ranch horse, well equipped to handle himself while out in pasture. Today, Billy Bob let us know it was his time to leave us. He walked to greet some of his favorite herd mates, before he went to a more secluded corner of the property and laid down. He was surrounded by many of us as we watched him pass on. There will never be another horse like Billy Bob, he was truly one of a kind. We will miss him every day. Tomorrow, 3/15, SVHC will be closed as we mourn the loss of a pillar of our community. Please share your Billy Bob memories with us so he continues to live on. We love you Billy Bob, we will miss you💚🐴

Billy Bob appreciation post!💚 If you’ve been out to SVHC, you’ve probably met Billy Bob. He is an older gentleman (in this 30’s!) who roams the ranch during the day. You can usually find him eating his grain by the barn, or walking around visiting his favorite horses by their fields. We love you Billy Bob!💚🐴

Throwback Thursday!💚🐴 Sometimes it can be daunting when we look around SVHC and see everything we could improve upon, but then we look back and see how far we’ve come!!! In 2021, when we first occupied this property, a lot of our facilities were not what they are now! Thanks to all of the amazing help and support from our community, we have been able to continuously improve our facilities, helping us to better host events and train our fostered rescue horses. While SVHC is not closing to the public, we ask that anyone who enters our property take precautions. EHV-1 is a serious illness that is highly contagious, and it’s important that we all do our part to protect our equine partners BY ALL MEANS. We had SUCH an awesome time with Best Buddies out at the ranch!💚🙌 If you are unfamiliar, Best Buddies is a nation wide program that helps to reduce the mental health stigma associated with disabilities. It teaches empathy, and acceptance of others that have differences, and creates a sense of belonging in the school system. We had some members from the Best Buddies from Summit Middle School come out, learn all about horse safety, grooming, leading, the power of taking care of a large animal, the power of teamwork and communication, and yes of course everyone got to see our chickens!☺️ Thank you to Best Buddies of Summit Middle School, and thank you to our amazing volunteers that help make programs like this possible!💚🙌🐴

‼️ADOPTION ANNOUNCEMENT‼️ Chewy, a young and handsome BLM mustang from @wildheartshaven , has been adopted!💚💚 When Alice first came to SVHC, she was just looking to sponsor a horse, slowly dipping her feet back into horses after some years away. But tale as old as time, as soon as she met Chewy, she knew they had to have a new forever together. With a lifetime of horse experience, Alice is excited to venture down a new path with her young mustang, as they learn and grow together. Alice will be keeping Chewy at SVHC to further his training. ‼️ADOPTION ANNOUNCEMENT‼️ Kruz, one of our lovely Appaloosa geldings from Next Step Horse Rescue, has found his forever home!💚🥹 When Emily saw Kruz, she was immediately drawn to his classic Appaloosa look, his kind eye, and cute trot.🤭 Her patience and kind nature makes her a great match for Kruz, who can be a little timid and spooky at times. She brought him to his new home in Montrose, where they will continue to bond, grow, and learn together💚 Congratulations to Emily and Kruz, we are so excited for both of you!!!🙏🐴💚

Thanks to an amazing group of volunteers we finished a huge list of chores and winterization today! The dumpster is full and we cannot move any more of the demolition debris until the dumpster is emptied. So no work tomorrow, Sunday! Thank you to the crew who came today, we achieved an amazing amount!

Meet Cricket💚✨ Cricket is a sweet Arabian mare in her mid 20’s from @horse_rescue_mvhr and is looking for her forever home!! Since Cricket has been at SVHC, we have worked a lot on getting her comfortable and fit, due to her previous founder and laminitis. Before Mountain Valley Horse Rescue had her, it is unclear how long it had been since Cricket was ridden or handled. She has come a long way, being comfortable handled by most, and now starting her journey under saddle again! ‼️ADOPTION ANNOUNCEMENT‼️ Rose, a beautiful thoroughbred from Troublesome Horse Rescue, has found her forever home💚🌹 The moment Rose came to SVHC, Georgia (our youth ambassador!) was in love. She knew she found her horse. She’s worked with her on the ground, ridden in 4H, and despite her busy sports schedule, always finds time for her. Georgia’s family has been nothing but supportive, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for them! Georgia will keep Rose at SVHC💚

Boomer wants to let you know the fall colors have been AMAZING this year!🍂💚 Boomer is still looking for his forever home! He is unrideable due to lameness, but loves his pasture mates and makes an amazing companion. He loves getting out and getting groomed, and also enjoys light groundwork in arena footing. These spotted boys are so much fun, we can’t believe they haven’t found their forever homes yet! In order, meet Kruz, Reno, and Valor💚 All of these geldings are POA’s and show LOTS of potential. Kruz is a bit timid at first but once he gets to work, he is all focus. He has the cutest little trot and would make an adorable kids horse after he gets some more training. Reno is a baby, and is still figuring out how his legs work! He is charming with his unique coloring and markings, and has grown quite a bit since he arrived at SVHC. He is one to watch! Valor, with his full mane and tail, is flashy and smart. He lunges over jumps, loves being groomed, and is the leader in his little herd. He loves to work and focuses on his handler. Meet our adoptable ponies!🐴💚 Walter is an incredibly handsome little Shetland pony who is waiting for his forever home🧡 He is shy and evasive around people, but once you gain his trust he loves scratches. We could see Walter as a very dashing cart pony one day, since he has such a fancy trot. At SVHC, Walter has lived with our mini donkeys and did well with them, and is fine living next to larger horses. At his rescue, Troublesome Horse Rescue, Walter is turned out with all different horses and does great in a large herd as well! Reigna❤️ is another adorable Shetland pony that is shy and unsure of people. We don’t know much about her past but we do know she was most likley an unhandled broodmare. She loves getting groomed and is finding confidence in our obstacle course! Dreamer🤎 is a young pony who came from a starvation hoarding situation. She came to us extremely timid and showed zero interest in humans. With lots of patience, Dreamer now does great leading, lunging and going through the obstacle course! She has grown A LOT since she came to SVHC and we anticipate her to come into herself as she gets more handling and grows up. She shows lots of potential to be a cute little riding pony! Dakota has been doing amazing as we help him build his confidence through groundwork, and is becoming more curious and friendly by the day! Meet Honey!🍯💚 Honey is a smart and curious 9 year old BLM mustang mare who is looking for her forever home🙏 From @wildheartshaven , Honey was started under saddle by Mindy Bower, and would do well with a lighter, balanced rider. Due to her size, Honey needs intentional training to help build up her strength. She is intelligent and loves being groomed and hanging out with people. ‼️ADOPTION ANNOUNCEMENT‼️ We are SO happy to announce that Sage (from Troublesome Horse Rescue) has been adopted! 💚Sammy saw Sage online and knew she had to meet Sage. They worked together and realized they make a great team! Sammy will keep Sage at SVHC for the remainder of the summer to continue her training, and then will take her to her forever home in Granby. We are SO HAPPY for Sammy and Sage!💚💚🥰

We are SO PROUD of our 3 4H gals who went to the @middleparkfairrodeo this year💚 It has been MANY years since Summit County has been represented in the horse classes at the fair, and we had such a blast with these little cowgirls. They have put in so much work to prepare for fair, along with their 4H workbooks among other things. We loved being there supporting them today, and we can’t wait until next year!
